The Mirrored Road is a feature length film that explores the relationship between trauma and memory, and questions the function of home movies as a vehicle for truth. What began as a project about the life of my great grandmother Bessie, an engineer on the Manhattan Project, evolves into an exploration of my own trauma, which unfolds slowly throughout the film and is prompted by stories of traumatic events surrounding Bessie's early life and those in her orbit.

Inspired by the Celtic myth in which a water spirit exchanges her magical powers for a human soul, Ondine is trapped in a dystopian purgatory. A more evolved woman from a future time crosses channels with her, becomes entranced by Ondine, and attempts to return her to her watery realm.
A woman warrior emerges alone from a rocky cliff. Compelled by unsettling visions of fire, she explores her surroundings. Moving from meadow to forest her garments and jewels change color. She encounters a seated knight, who coaxes her to sleep. She finds herself trapped in her dream, however, urgently seeking means of escape. She remembers her sword. Liberated by its power she is reborn. Draped in veils she steps from a lush, garden bath only to wrestle a new shadow force, but as she confronts it her bedazzled veil shields her and the spell lifts

Golden-haired girls in pressed polka-dot summer dresses run, scuba dive, ride horses and scooters — all in kaleidoscopic slow motion. They play, as they should, under the serene supervision of a glamorous woman wearing white-rimmed sunglasses.

Multiple, bright images of voluptuous highly styled women are stacked to make a cruciform. The beautiful women pulse and nod as if in thrall to the chorus of high children’s voices sweetly singing a hymn. They are caught in a cycle of seduction and worship.
